How to Organize Shopify Product Page Content Without Theme Code
Turn long Shopify product pages into clear tabs and mobile accordions with reusable content rules—without editing theme code.
If a Shopify product page has become one long run of specifications, care instructions, shipping notes, compatibility details, and policy copy, shoppers have to work too hard to find the answer they need. The fix is not necessarily a theme rewrite. You can keep the underlying content in Shopify and change how it is organized on the page.
This guide shows how to create a reusable content system with tabs on wide product-page columns and accordions on narrow ones using Supra Tabs & Accordions. You will need access to Shopify admin and your product template. The app is free, with no trial, tier, or card requirement.
1. Decide Which Details Need Their Own Section
Start by reading one representative product page as a shopper would. Mark the information that answers a distinct question: materials, dimensions, care, ingredients, shipping, warranty, fit, compatibility, or downloadable instructions. Keep the product’s core sales story near the top; move the reference material into sections with labels a shopper can scan.
A useful first set might be Details, Care, Shipping, and Size & Fit. Do not create a tab just because you can. If two headings answer the same question, combine them. If a section is only relevant to some products, plan to use a source that can be empty without leaving a blank panel.

Expected result: you have a short list of section labels and know which ones are shared versus product-specific. This is the same content-design discipline behind a reusable Shopify product-page content system, but here the next step is to make it reusable in the storefront.
2. Choose the Right Content Source for Each Section
In Supra Tabs & Accordions, create a tab set, then choose the source for each section. The right source depends on how often the information changes.
- Use the product description for a product-specific story or short feature summary.
- Use a per-product metafield for structured details such as material, ingredients, or measurements.
- Use a store page for shared policies such as delivery or returns.
- Use a metaobject field when you maintain reusable structured entries, such as care programs or compatibility groups.
- Use an image or downloadable file for a manual, diagram, or supporting document.
- Use written content in the app for a small shared note that does not need to live elsewhere.
The app changes presentation and organization; it does not replace your underlying Shopify content. That distinction matters when you want staff to keep updating familiar fields. It also lets empty sections hide automatically on products that have no matching source, rather than showing a dead tab.
3. Target the Tab Set to the Right Products
Next, choose where the set applies. You can assign it to a collection, tag, vendor, product type, or selected products. Prefer a rule that describes the catalog group you expect to maintain over time. For example, a collection rule for apparel can continue to cover future apparel products; a tag rule can support a special-care group without manually touching each product.
Before you save, review the live preview, match count, and any overlap warnings. If two rules can match the same product, confirm which set should win. This small preflight prevents a carefully built care section from being replaced by a generic set later.

Expected result: the preview reflects the product group you intended, and you can explain why each product is included. For another example of turning a product-page decision into a repeatable rule, see how to add color swatches to Shopify collection pages.
4. Add the App Block Once to Your Product Template
Open Online Store → Themes → Customize, navigate to a product template, and add the Supra Tabs & Accordions app block in the product information area. Put it where shoppers naturally expect deeper details—usually below the summary and purchase controls. Save the template, then open a matching product in a private browsing window.
Because the block lives in the template, you do not need to edit theme code or paste a separate layout into every product description. A single block can present the correct tab set wherever its rules match.
Expected result: a matching product displays its named sections on the live page, while an unmatched product stays unchanged.
5. Check the Responsive Behavior, Not Just the Desktop View
Tabs work well when a product-page column has enough width. On a narrower column, accordions give each heading a large tap target and preserve vertical space. Supra Tabs & Accordions responds to the actual product-page column, not only the browser’s screen width, so test it in the context of your theme.
Choose an overflow behavior for a larger tab set: horizontal scrolling, a More control, wrapping rows, or stacked sections. Then test the page on a phone and with keyboard navigation. Confirm the labels are still readable, focus is visible, and reduced-motion preferences are respected.

Do not hide important information behind vague labels such as “More.” If contrast is uncertain after you customize colors, use the workflow in How to Check Shopify Product Page Contrast Before Publishing before launch.
Expected result: shoppers can find each section on desktop and mobile without zooming, awkward horizontal scrolling, or a giant unbroken description.
6. Run a Small Catalog QA Before You Roll Out
Check at least one product from every targeting rule. Open the direct link to a particular tab where useful, then confirm that the visible headings and content are correct. Specifically look for empty sections, duplicate policy text, unexpected rule overlaps, and long labels that wrap poorly.
For size-sensitive products, pair the content structure with a readable measurement experience; this guide on making Shopify size charts easy to read on mobile is a useful companion check. Record any exception as a product tag, metafield correction, or rule adjustment rather than patching the storefront by hand.
Keep Product Information Findable as the Catalog Grows
A product page does not need less information; it needs a shape shoppers can navigate. Define clear headings, pull shared and product-specific content from the right Shopify sources, target a tab set with maintainable rules, add the app block once, and test the real column on desktop and mobile.
Your next action: install Supra Tabs & Accordions from the Shopify App Store, build one pilot tab set for a representative collection, and use the preview and overlap checks before applying it across the catalog.
